Capacity planning in the cloud requires a new thinking
The traditional models of capacity planning for infrastructure when applied to the cloud can be dangerous. Though there are cost savings in moving to the cloud, the capacity planning thinking needs a new thought process. Choosing to reserve capacity in the cloud prior to applying the earlier steps can limit your cloud cost reduction ability. You can get some cost savings from reservations but may be forced to pay for a resource irrespective of your ability to use it.
